The Charlie Bernhaut Collection of Jewish and Cantorial Recordings
www.jewishmusic-asjm.org/bernhautcollecction

The American Society for Jewish Music’s Charlie Bernhaut Collection of Jewish and Cantorial Recordings contains more than 15,000 albums dating from the early twentieth century to the present day. Not only is the process of complete digitization moving ahead, including the recordings, covers, labels and liner notes, but all of this material will soon become part of a comprehensive, searchable online database which we hope will set a new standard for recorded collections in its capacity to easily access information about each item in the collection.

The Charlie Bernhaut Collection of Jewish and Cantorial Recordings is housed at the Center for Jewish History, and that its database will eventually also become part of the Center’s online library collections, as well as that of the National Library in Israel. In time, the Charle Bernhaut Bernhaut Collection database will form the nucleus of an even larger ASJM project entitled The Database of Jewish Music Sound Recordings.
