We are grateful to the Park Avenue Synagogue for permission to republish Rabbi Michelman's article, which originally appeared in Rayonot.  A memorial tribute which was given at the 1967 Commencement Exercises of the Jewish Theological Seminary of American, remembering Michelman's grandfather, Rabbi Israel Goldfarb, composer of the melody for "Shalom Aleichem," follows this article.
