A
native of New York City, Hadassah Binder Markson attended the High School or
Music and Art before receiving her B.A. in Music from Queens College.
She continued studies in musicology at both the Graduate Center and
Hunter College.
Ms.
Markson has been the President of the Center for Contemporary Opera since 1996.
She is also the director of both the School of Music and the School of
the Arts at the 92nd Street Y. She
is the founder and producer of various projects there including the Lyrics and
Lyrics Series, the Jazz in July Festival, and the Jazz Piano Series in addition
to being the founder and artistic director of Jewish Opera at the Y.
Ms.
Markson served as the president of the American Society for Jewish Music from
1998-2002. Since 1996 she has be a
co-chair for the ASJM’s Concert Committee.
